Before I post this review I would like to make a quick apology, not only for the delay in getting it uploaded, but for not making time to write it! I’ve got a lot of shit going on with work, home life as well as the band (which has now had to fall back to one session a fortnight due to various issues) But enough about the excuses. It’s time you read my review of Dan Kraevyn’s project Throne of Anguish! The majority of you will probably know that Dan has recently joined our team and you will be able to read his first feature shortly.

However, despite him being a member of the team, you can rest assured that I won’t be writing a biased review just because he is one of us. So when I say that his music is absolutely brilliant! Don’t judge me, just listen to an example below and you’ll understand.

I was given the task of writing a review for a few reasons. One being that I’m a fellow musician myself so can probably relate to it better. The second being that out of me, Richard and Siobhan, I probably knew the least about this guy. Once again down to me not being around much. But I took the feature willingly expecting to hear a random metal band with a hint of horror, the likes of which  we’d seen quite a few times over.

The first song I listened to was Patrem et Filium. And to be honest, as soon as it finished I HAD to play it again. You see I’m a big fan of the instrumental stuff. Soundtracks to movies and that kinda thing. So when I heard this I just thought – YES! It had suspense, a great melody throughout, the gothic synth and great choral parts. I’m easy to please it seems. But if you’re not the same as me, let me continue.

So now I was in high spirits and expected a lot from Dan the Man. So the next song I listened to was A Dead Day Will Dawn. Once again I wasn’t disappointed. This song had a more techno feel to it at the beginning until the introduction of heavy guitar half way through. It was about the same time that the vocals started. Now personally I’m not a fan of screaming/roaring, indecipherable vocals, except in certain circumstances when it seems to work well with the music. Well I’m happy to report that the distorted vox in this song DO seem to work well with the overall piece and it gets another thumbs up from yours truly.

If you’re a fan of anything melodic, dark/gothic, techno, metal or all of the above, check out Throne of Anguish. From what I’ve heard so far it sounds brilliant and has definitely made a fan out of me.

Butchered Beat Productionz

Posted in Music with tags , , , , , , , on March 2, 2012 by Erebus Horror

We’re back to Horrorcore  this week and what a feature we have for you.

Butchered Beat Productionz led by Rukus has a unique sound that we think you’re going to love. There’s a video further down, but WAIT! Let us tell you about these guys first!

Rukus has been in the game for well over 10 years… He first hooked up with his old partner in rhyme Komatose (See earlier post) around 1999 while he was in a group called ASYLUM. They later went on to form the label Cutthroat Productions as well as the group KRYPTIK and the rest is history. They released their last group album “The Last Horror Show” in October 2010. Komatose went on to become an artist on Serial Killin’ records while Rukus released quite a bit of solo material still using the CTP label. He later went on to start up Butchered Beat Productionz and along with long time fan and fellow horrorcore artist Cutthroat they got the ball rolling. They released 2 albums together as well as a few solo joints. They then hooked up with A-rOn The Don and formed the group “The Gorehouse Greatz”. They released their first album “House of Gore” and got mad love from the moment it dropped. They are now currently working on solo projects as well as the next Gorehouse Greatz album “The Legend of Gorehouse” dropping sometime this Summer. Fellow horrorcore artist CiNiKiLL has since joined Butchered Beat Productionz and is going to be re-releasing some of his older material as well as a new Ep. Things are looking pretty good right now for the guys over at Butchered Beat Productionz… keep your eyes peeled !!!

Want a sample of their music? Here’s a track from their “House of Gore” album

Pretty cool right?

Prowler

Posted in Music with tags , , , , , , , , on February 17, 2012 by Erebus Horror

After a huge leap in site visits following our post on Horrorcore, we figured we’d keep the music theme going.

With this in mind, we introduce Prowler – A horror/metal band from Myrtle Beach SC!

As soon as we heard these guys, our first thought was an evil Metallica! They’re AWESOME. Listen to the full song below and you will see what we mean.

Prowler is a 3-piece thrash horror metal band with terrorific riffs, spine-tingling sounds, memorable lyrics and quotes that should be familiar to aficionados of the horror genre. They combine metal with some old, chilling horror and thriller lyrics as well as quotes and live samples directly from the movies themselves.

The vocals range from melodic to death metal (with the death adding to the horror element and emphasizing the theme even deeper) The concept is deadly contagious and each song is written about an individual horror, slasher, or thriller film.

Their debut EP, entitled “PART 1,” was released in January of 2011. It introduced the 2 tracks, “THE DEAD RISE AGAIN” (based on Romero’s iconic, classic, 1968 black and white, NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD) and “FRIDAY THE 13TH,” (based on the 1980 Original). In June of 2011 they released their debut follow up, entitled PART 2 to a growing and hungry audience. Selling out of their first press the first week, PART 2 features the two tracks, “THE STALKER” (encompassing any slasher, stalker, thriller film with a female victim and samples taken from Savini’s 1981 “THE PROWLER”), and “THE TALL MAN” (based on the 1979 cult Coscarelli classic, PHANTASM).

They have just released their 3rd EP on Halloween entitled PART 3. PART 3 features the two terrors, “SAY HELLO TO THE NITE (based on one of the best vampire films; Joel Shumacher’s 1987, “THE LOST BOYS”) and “HADDONFIELD,” (from the 1978 slasher film that started them all, John Carpenter’s HALLOWEEN).

Prowler has already started a steady, devoted following and has been embraced with critical acclaim from all walks of the living, dead and undead. They have also released two videos, one for “THE DEAD RISE AGAIN” in March of 2011 and the other from PART 1, “FRIDAY THE 13TH,” in August 2011.

Wanna see? Here’s the video for FRIDAY THE 13TH,

Pretty cool right? The rest of the horror unfolds like this…….. There will be a limited edition series ran featuring – Part 1 – Part 2 – Part 3 – and the Final Chapter – (Part 4). Each series will consist of 2 songs making the series 8 songs total. Each part of the series will be sold only at a press of 500 copies, making each part a limited series collectible. Each part will contain a different cover and back photo jacket as well as different artwork on the actual disc. PART 1, 2 and 3 are available now and Prowler will be releasing the Final Chapter (PART 4) summer of 2012. After the 4 part series is released, a full length album will be pressed and distributed in Europe and the US. This album will be 9 tracks, featuring 1 bonus track not available anywhere else.

As far as we’re concerned, this is a prime example of what horror bands should be!

Komatose – Horrorcore

Posted in Music with tags , , , , , , , , , on February 13, 2012 by Erebus Horror

As we expand our coverage of all things horror, we delve into the dark realm of Horrorcore!

To anyone unfamiliar with this type of music, Horrorcore can be classed as a subgenre of rap/hip hop. With its dark, horror-themed lyrics and twisted messages, this style of music is something we thoroughly enjoy here at Erebus Horror.

Now there are many Horrorcore artists out there, as well as other horror-themed artists and bands, all of which deserve recognition. With this in mind, we’re going to try and introduce a new artist/band every month in the hope of expanding their fan-base and providing the extra publicity they deserve. So without further ado, we bring to you our first feature on the Horrorcore artist Komatose.

Considered by some a legend in the small genre of horrorcore, Komatose has been a slave to the darker side of music since 1998. Starting out reciting lyrics of lunacy into an at-home makeshift recording setup, Komatose quickly established himself as a prominent Horrorcore artist. Now, years later, Komatose is being whispered about in every dark corner by people who dare to like something a bit darker and morbid.

In 2001, Komatose started his own label with one of Horrorcore’s most memorable duos “Kryptik”. With Kryptik as the corner stone, Cutthroat Productions (his makeshift home for melodies of the macabre) had reached all corners of the United States and a few places across the pond just through word of mouth alone! Sadly though, Cutthroat Productions closed up shop when Komatose was scooped up by 3rd Shift Entertainment in 2005. His tenure there was short as he then moved onto one of the most dangerous labels in the country; Serial Killin Records.

With label mates, Sicktanick, Razakel, Stitchmouth and Razor Ruckus, the puzzle is complete. Now performing across the greater US, Komatose is pushing his butchered beats and hideous rhymes to anyone daring enough to listen and plans to do so until father time puts a stop to the madness known as Komatose “The Pumpkin King”. Currently he is working on his fourth album and by what Komatose himself believes, to be his best work to date. The title of the new manifesto, “I, Madman” is a homage to a lesser known campy 80s horror film and is currently slated for a 3rd quarter 2012 release.

Caught your interest?  Well here’s an example of just how good Komatose is!

If you want more, check out Komatose’s page on reverbnation here: www.reverbnation.com/komatosehorrorcore

Nightwish – Imaginaerum

Posted in Music with tags , , , , , on December 28, 2011 by Erebus Horror

Okay, I know that we have said in the past that we’re only going to feature unknown artists/ struggling bands rather than the more established musicians, but with this band I think I can make an exception.

I have been a fan of Nightwish for many years and was eager to acquire their new album Imaginaerum. As you can guess I was overjoyed to find that Santa had left me the album in the old, worn stocking that I had left out just on the off-chance. Now rather than reporting the jolly fat guy for breaking and entering, I decided to let him off just this once and enjoy my unexpected gift! And what a gift it was. For those of you who don’t know the band, check out this song from the aforementioned album and you will know why I immediately fell in love.

Nightporter – Victoria

Posted in Music, Radio Horror with tags , , , on November 3, 2011 by Erebus Horror

This was the final track on Radio Horror (And what a way to end the show eh?)

Nightporter are a Newcastle-based band that have toured all over the UK. They combine the best elements of Alternative Rock, Psychedelia and heavy Post Punk to create a blistering wall of sound of their own. Think Killing Joke going toe to toe with The Doors while Joy Division sticks the boot in and you have the NightPorter sound. It’s the dark end of the street, part melody, part menace but overall very infectious.

We’re a very big fan of Nightporter here at Erebus Horror and we hope to feature many more of their tracks in any further shows we might do (Once we’ve won our legal battle of course)

If you want any further information about the band, you can find it here: nightporter.net

Hells Belles – Abyssinian Demesne

Posted in Music, Radio Horror with tags , , , on November 3, 2011 by Erebus Horror

The fifth track to be played on Radio Horror

Located in Manchester, the band is also known as the ‘original’ British Heavy Metal Band.To quote their website they are  Unique. Quirky. Different. Blending and melding disparate styles and influences into a new, unique cohesive musical powerhouse. Thus emerged, without fanfare or bluster, without hype or hysteria – one band to rule them all in the crossover period that was post-punk, post-NWOBHM, pre-grunge, pre-numetal – that sound, that energy, that force, was Hell’s Belles.

Awesome band with a great sound! They’re sure to go far.

Machination – Morphine

Posted in Music, Radio Horror with tags , , , on November 3, 2011 by Erebus Horror

This would have been track number four on Radio Horror.

Unfortunately we don’t have much info on Machination except that their electro-sound is compelling! As far as we know they formed at the end of 2010. That, and the fact that it’s just a vocalist and a synth player makes their feat all the more impressive!

Never A Hero – Stalked

Posted in Music, Radio Horror with tags , , , , on November 3, 2011 by Erebus Horror

This was the third track to be featured on Radio Horror.

Never A Hero are the more unique of bands that we’ve experienced so far. First of all they have a great sound which brings up the question of WHY AREN’T THEY WORLD FAMOUS YET?! Surely a band of this calibre should have hit the big time by now? Let’s make it happen horror fans.

Another unique aspect of the band is how they wear morbid-looking masks whilst on stage and they also perform wearing straight-jackets. Not a bunch you want to meet in a dark alley…

But of course we just had to muse… How do they play wearing straight jackets? Have we been mis-informed? Or is their level of greatness far beyond our understanding. We need to go see these guys live to clear it up (Anything to get a few free tickets eh?)

Dick Blake – Alien Love Child

Posted in Music, Radio Horror with tags , , , , on November 3, 2011 by Erebus Horror

This would have been the second track on the opening night of Radio Horror.

Dick Blake is obviously one of the great storytellers of the music world. Abduction, UFOs, alien sex and a little green baby is the story of Alien Love Child. What more could you want?

A website would be nice…

We’ve got that as well! www.alienlovechild.co.uk
